Description

The first international school on water reuse, with professionals and lecturers from prestigious European universities, visits to water treatment plants and case studies.

Objectives

The International School on Water Reuse is the first international school for multi-disciplinary training on water reuse, offering a multi-dimensional perspective on the state of the art and an insight into perspectives and solutions for the increasingly complex challenges in this field.

Skills

Participants will acquire multidisciplinary knowledge, in an international context, related to the topic of water reuse: from the legislative framework, to the application of innovative wastewater treatment technologies, with a look at environmental impact assessment, economic aspects and risk assessment. They will be able to understand the importance of involving society in the topic of water reuse, reflecting in particular on the social acceptance of water reuse and its relevance in addressing water scarcity.
Through the discussion of case studies, participants will be able to experiment, grounding the concepts they have learnt in participatory teaching.

Target

The school aims at the participation of people coming both from the research environment (academic and corporate) and from production and/or management spheres involved in various ways in the use and management of water resources, in order to bring together diversified realities and skills that can in perspective work in synergy.
The school is therefore aimed at personnel of water resource management companies (managers, planners, laboratory technicians, ...) farmers, employees of public administrations, young researchers and all professionals who deal in various ways with water and its uses and destinations.

Why a school on water reuse?

Water is an increasingly precious resource and the topic of the water crisis is complex and requires multidisciplinary expertise: climate change, population growth, groundwater pollution and water resource management require a 360° approach to its understanding and resolution. The business world, in collaboration with the world of research, must consciously and consciously embark on a path of planning and designing models and solutions for water reuse that can be a valid tool to combat the water crisis. Politics is also moving in this direction with the new European legislation on water re-use that will come into force from June 2023.

The partner: Butterfly Area

Butterfly Area is a strategic project of the University of Turin within the innovative 'City of Science and Environment' Campus in the city of Grugliasco, in the metropolitan area of Turin. It is a nascent ecosystem in which companies, research organisations and institutions will be able to work side by side with researchers and students, set up joint laboratories, use pilot plants and access university research facilities, on themes concerning the main development drivers in which the European Union will invest for future competitive challenges (Energy and Clean technologies, Green Chemistry and Advanced Materials, ICT, Smart Products and Manufacturing, Agrifood).
