Students' Challenges
Expression of Interest to Propose Challenges to groups of students in the context of the NODES Project – Spoke 4 The notice is aimed at collecting expressions of interest from companies wishing to participate in the initiative as proposing entities, formulating technological and/or social challenges that are collected and selected by the Universities of the NODES Ecosystem based on shared criteria. Students will then be involved in innovative educational paths, facing and developing new ideas in response to the challenges and, last but not least, proposing innovative projects and solutions. The objective is twofold: on the one hand, to offer students the opportunity to interact with the business world, public entities, associations, and third-sector entities in the territories of the NODES project through the "learning by doing" method, and on the other hand, to provide an opportunity for companies and other proposing entities to meet young talents and discover innovative solutions applicable within their realities. Who can participate Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Large Enterprises (LE) but also Local Authorities, Public Entities, Associations, and Third Sector Entities, based in one of the territories of the NODES project (Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta, Provinces of Como, Varese, Pavia). Eligible initiatives The Challenges must be consistent in terms of the impact and results with the research and innovation themes indicated by Spoke 4 with the Smart Specialization Strategy (S3) of the involved regions, as well as with the "digital, industry, aerospace" specialization area of the National Research Program (PNR) of the NODES Innovation Ecosystem. The proposing entities are invited to fill out the Expression of Interest according to the instructions and forms provided here. The selected challenges will be presented to groups of Master's degree students who, as part of multidisciplinary teams and guided by academic tutors and mentors from the proposing entity, will design innovative solutions and then present them to the company/organization that proposed them. The challenges The Challenge proposals must concern the research and innovation topics proposed by Spoke 4, namely, support for activities in the field of remote working, the management of energy and water resources and infrastructure in mountainous environments, and participatory regeneration of mountain territories in the fields of tourism, environmental protection, climate risk management, the wood industry, transportation, and education. Timings The Expressions of Interest can be submitted from April 14, 2023, to May 15, 2023. Expressions of Interest to co-design industrial doctoral programs - Spoke 4 UPDATE as of June 30, 2023: the ranking of the received proposals is now available in the attachments.   The notice is aimed at collecting expressions of interest from companies wishing to promote the activation of 5 Research Doctorates consistent with their needs for innovation and research, with the research and innovation themes indicated by Spoke no. 4, with the smart specialization strategy (S3) of the involved regions, as well as with the "digital, industry, aerospace" specialization area of the PNR of the NODES Innovation Ecosystem. The total resources of €261,738.00 for the funding of 5 doctoral scholarships, using NODES PNRR funds, will be allocated to projects proposed by companies, applied to their reference economic sector, and aimed at carrying out joint research activities with the University, within the framework of specifically activated doctoral programs.   Who can participate "Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and Large Enterprises (LE) based in one of the territories of the NODES project (Piedmont, Valle d'Aosta, Provinces of Como, Varese, Pavia). Eligible initiatives The proposed projects must have a three-year duration coinciding with the actual activation period of the doctoral scholarship. They should include study and research periods in the company ranging from a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 12 months, and a possible study and research period abroad ranging from a minimum of 6 to a maximum of 12 months. The projects should be carried out in collaboration with the Universities affiliated with the Spoke. Challenges The project proposals must address the research and innovation themes proposed by Spoke 4, namely, support for activities in the field of remote working, management of energy and water resources and infrastructure in mountainous environments, and participatory regeneration of mountain territories in the areas of tourism, environmental protection, climate risk management, the wood supply chain, transportation, and education. Timings The applications for participation can be submitted from April 27, 2023, until June 9, 2023. Support for access to innovation services in the context of the Spoke. UPDATE as of october 09, 2023: among the attachments, you can find the ranking of proposals "Eligible and Fundable" and those "Eligible Without Funds" due to the exhaustion of available resources.   The funding requested by companies concerns investment paths in innovation within the scope of the Spoke, involving the acquisition of advanced and qualified services identified in the "Ecosystem NODES Catalog." The overall financial allocation is €1,330,000, drawn from the PNRR funds of NODES.   Who can participate Micro, Small, and Medium-sized Enterprises (MSMEs), while Large Enterprises (LEs) cannot apply. Economic and financial sustainability: economic and equity requirements, as well as financial sustainability based on the latest closed and approved financial statements, will be verified. Eligible initiatives The proposed services should have an amount ranging from €15,000 to €80,000, a maximum duration of 12 months, and be implemented in the NODES Ecosystem territory, including the Piedmont Region, the Aosta Valley Region, and the provinces of Como, Pavia, and Varese. Facilitation The grant is non-repayable, with a maximum intensity of 50% on eligible expenses. The maximum amount per beneficiary is €60,000, which can be cumulated with multiple services funded under Line B only. Challenges The services should align with the Spoke 4 themes, supporting activities in remote working, managing energy and water resources and infrastructure in mountainous areas, and participatory regeneration of mountain territories in tourism, environmental protection, climate risk management, the wood supply chain, transportation, and education. Timings Applications for funding can be submitted from April 12, 2023, within the specified periods outlined in the call. Support for Proof of Concept (PoC) projects with high social and economic impact to establish new entrepreneurial ventures. Update as of August 3, 2023 The ranking list of Academic Proof of Concept (PoC) projects for this call is available among the attachments.   Project proposals submitted by groups of researchers should align with the research and innovation themes of the Spoke and the Smart Specialization Strategy (S3) of the involved regions. The total financial allocation is €751,994 from the PNRR funds of NODES.   Who can participate The proposing team must consist of at least three researchers, among whom the Project Manager is identified. The team must be affiliated with a university promoting the call, holding the role of Spoke Subject or Affiliate of the Spoke.   Eligible initiatives The presented projects should have a budget between €50,000 and €120,000, a maximum duration of 14 months, and should be implemented within the universities affiliated with the Spoke. Challenges Project proposals should focus on the research and innovation themes proposed by Spoke 4, namely, supporting activities related to remote working, managing energy and water resources and infrastructure in mountainous environments, and participatory regeneration of mountain territories in the fields of tourism, environmental protection, climate risk management, the wood industry, transportation, and education.
